Portable moisture meters for instant diagnosis

Portable moisture meters for instant diagnosis
Measuring moisture with a portable moisture meter allows an instant informed moisture diagnosis.

Measuring moisture with the capacitive method

This method allows measuring both the moisture content and the temperature of the measured sample, from the frequency variation in response to the electric signal sent by the moisture meter: the modifications of the electric field caused by material, moisture and temperature bring the pieces of information needed to measure the sample.
The calibration curves take the density of the sample standards into account, and their accurate weighing is a prerequisite for a reliable moisture measurement.
Some moisture meters for biomass -agricultural and silvicultural- use this principle to measure the moisture content on wet weight and temperature of plants.

Radio frequency moisture detection (RF)

The damper the material is, the stronger the signal sent to the receiver of the moisture detector; thus the sub-surface moisture of solid non-conducting materials is detected. This technique is ideal for fragile or easily breakable surfaces, such as wall papers, tiled floors, floorboards, boat hulls... The moisture tester Humitest Aquant detects moisture at depth, till 20 mm, by this RF method. The results are shown on a digital display synchronised with a colour coded LCD scale (: 0 – 160: Dry / 160 – 190: At risk / 190-1000: Damp).

Measuring moisture with the resistive method

Moisture content in wood (H²O on dry weight) or wood moisture equivalent (%WME) is determined by measuring the resistance between two electrodes, either points or rings: the material water content is proportional to conductance and inversely proportional to resistance.
The water in wood conditions the resistivity. The more there is water, the more the wood drives the current. To measure water content, plant a probe with 2 electrodes or rings in the wood: the current passes and the moisture meter measures the resistance of wood.

Non conducting solid building materials moisture

The Humitest Mini moisture meter measures moisture of plaster, moisture of concrete, moisture of polyester... The results are shown on a colour coded LED scale (: 0 – 16: Dry / 16 – 19: At risk / 19-100: Damp).

Carpentry, joinery and boarder flooring moisture

The Humitest Timb moisture meter displays the wood moisture content a few seconds after inserting the electrodes into the timber.

Logs, round wood and industry wood moisture

The Humitest for round timber displays immediately the wood water content on wet mass.

Plants, grains and stems moisture

The Humitest for grain and stems moisture meter measures water content of wheat, water content of coffee, water content of rice...

Nota
The bale probe enables the user to measure moisture in materials packed in the bulk or stored in bags.
The Humitest Survey moisture meter uses either radio frequency method or resistive method that are complementary, for an in-depth diagnosis; the MMS moisture meter has additional functions of an efficient thermo hygrometer.

Humitest Survey

This moisture meter allows to measure both surface moisture by contacting its two electrodes, and dampness detection by radio frequency, without leaving a trace on the surface.
