However, with the carbon carbide method you are never sure about the representativeness of samples; it is basically a 20-gram sample, 5 cm thick. Also, the result is obtained using a chemical reaction. "The Humitest method involves drilling several holes in a surface that can be re-used as required. The instrument also allows you to monitor moisture level over a period of time. It is also very user-friendly, because you can read the figures directly off the display. Measuring moisture in a floor is part of the battery of tests conducted on a support base before applying a coating; it is as important as conducting a mechanical strength test. This test is essential because it enables you to apply a resin without having to cross your fingers!", concludes Olivier Guerni.
